Summer 2018 part 2

After a week on the Normandy coast we moved north-east to the Somme. Basing ourselves in Albert we visited most of the key sites – Thiepval, the Ulster Tower, Beamont-Hamel, the Sunken Lane, Lochnagar Crater, Mametz Woods and course, one of the most iconic of memorials, Vimy Ridge.

We then moved further north to one of our most favourite places Ypres. We specifically went to see the ‘Coming World Remember Me’ art installation in De Palingbeke. In 2017 we’d both made one of the sculptures to be included in the installation so we were delighted to be able to see the finished article. Over 600,000 sculptures, one for every life lost in the Salient.
